The idea
One tap, and no app store.
I am a web app: I run in your phone’s browser, so there is nothing to download from an app store and nothing to update. Add me to your home screen and I sit there beside everything else, opening in one tap like any other app. It takes a minute, once, and it is the same on every phone your members carry.
Why it is worth doing
Two reasons. The first is speed: one tap from your home screen to your bookings, with no web address to remember. The second only applies to an iPhone, and it matters more. An iPhone lets my notifications through only once I am on its home screen, so the Daily reminder cannot reach an iPhone until you have done this. Until then the Account page tells you so: Add Doris to your home screen to enable push notifications. An Android phone lets my notifications through either way, so there it is simply the one tap.
For example
Tom teaches a class on Tuesday mornings. He adds me to his iPhone, turns on the Daily reminder for 08:00, and every Tuesday at eight his phone tells him he is in Room 2 at ten.
Leave it alone if
You book from a computer, or you only look at your bookings now and then. A bookmark in your browser does the same job.
Start in the app, not on this site
This site, bookwithdoris.com, is where I explain myself; it cannot be added as the app. Open the app itself at app.bookwithdoris.com on your phone and sign in first, then follow the steps for your phone below. I go onto your home screen as Doris App, with a teal door for an icon.
For example
Sue opens this page on her phone, then goes to app.bookwithdoris.com, signs in, and adds me from there. On her home screen I appear as Doris App, with the teal door.
Leave it alone if
I am already on your home screen. Tap me; there is nothing more to do.
On an iPhone
Open me in Safari. Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up), choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add. Apple moves these buttons between versions of the iPhone’s software, so on a newer iPhone the Share button may be tucked behind the ••• button first.
For example
On Sue's iPhone the Share button sits behind the three dots. She taps the dots, then Share, then Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Leave it alone if
Your phone is an Android. The next beat is yours.
On an Android phone
Open me in Chrome. Tap the three dots (⋮), choose Install and create shortcut, then choose Install, not Create shortcut. Install is what puts me on your home screen as the app; a shortcut only opens me in a browser tab. Other Android phones and browsers may word these slightly differently, but you are looking for Install.

On a Pixel in Chrome, Sue taps the three dots at the top right, chooses Install and create shortcut, and then Install. I am on her home screen a moment later.
Leave it alone if
Your phone is an iPhone. The beat before this one is yours.
Then turn on the Daily reminder
Open me from your home screen, go to the Account page, and turn on Daily reminder. Pick a Preferred time of 07:00, 08:00 or 09:00. Your phone asks your permission the first time; say yes, or the reminder has nowhere to go. It is one notification a day listing that day’s bookings, and it is set for each organisation you belong to.
For example
Tom chooses 08:00. On a day he has a booking, one notification lands at eight listing them. On a day he has none, his phone stays quiet.
Leave it alone if
You would rather not hear from me. The Daily reminder is off until you turn it on.
What I never do
- I never send you to an app store. There is nothing to download.
- I never turn the Daily reminder on for you. It stays off until you choose a time.
- I never send more than one reminder a day, and none on a day you have no bookings.
- I never change anything about your account when you add me: the same sign-in, the same bookings.
